Lately I have been getting into Flickr. I love browsing through the groups, currently i'm signed up for the Sigma 10-20mm and the Canon 50D. Love seeing what others do with my favourite tools of the trade. I have also been using it to showcase some of my work, normally its the photos that don't make the final cut of what I submit on here, but ones that I would still like to show them around.

If you are on Flickr, feel free to add me as a contact, or browse my photostreams. I could appreciate your feedback on the "ones that didn't make it".

I have also begun a Facebook page, which has greatly helped out in showing my work to those not in the art world of dA. Hope you 'like' it!

Holiday

This week I had the pleasure of getting away for a couple of days with a mate. The original plan was to drive up to The Sunshine Coast in Queensland. This plan was scraped with an incredible deal to stay at Nelsons Bay came up. The deal was some crazy discounted 4 star cabin and we just couldn't say no. Yes, it wasn't as adventurous as we had first planned, but it would be a break none-the-less!

Nelson Bay is an incredibly diverse place, crazy mountains, beach, lakes, WWII ruins, bushland, national parks and STARS! I forget how many stars are actually in the sky at night (stupid Sydney and its light pollution). I only had 3 days to make the most of it and needless to say, my camera was put to work!

Our first day begun at 6am, my phone app incorrectly informed me that the sun would rise at 6:30am. When I rose the sky was already ablaze, I raced down the beach to get some shots. I had missed the rising but got some great shots, which will appear here very soon!

To make a long story shot, my head didn't hit the pillow until around 2am. I had emptied a freshly charged battery on my camera in just one day. I had planned to stay out longer that night, but my battery wouldn't let me.

20 hours, 220 something photos, 1 battery, just one day! That is a record for me. The best part was that there was still 2 days to go!

Home now and just sorting through everything... Let the post-processing begin!

Farewell JPEG

Today. My. Eyes. Have. Been. Blown. W i d e. Open! And while I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, I truly am! You see up until today I have always captured using both RAW and JPEG, but only edited using the JPEGs. Sure there were times when I wanted to make a HDR image-so I would dig through the files for the one I was after and have at it. But for most of the RAW files it was off to the trash can once I had finished doing my post from the shoot.

Now I have known for awhile that the pros pretty much only use RAW but didn't that think that much of it. Until. I opened up a RAW image and did some very quick post on it. Basically just beefing up the saturation and the sharpness. I then applied those same parameters to the same JPEG image. I will let the results speak for themselves.

(You can click for a larger view, you will probably need to do this :))

Can you guess which one was the RAW edit (one on the right)

Incredible!

JPEG, you have been good to me, but its time for me to move on.

Finsihed product of this photo andyjimmy.deviantart.com/art/B…. Although this was done with using the JPEG about a week ago. Perhaps one day I will re-process it using the RAW.
